Additional information: There are many possible reasons for low blood pressure, and Daniel briefly considered whether it could be a vasovagal reaction, as she had just experienced an episode of vomiting. Instead of waiting to see if this was the case, he decided to take her into surgery, as it might be something more serious. That decision saved her life.
During the operation, Daniel did what is considered a last resort by pushing his fist against the patient’s aorta for about 45 minutes. This bought his colleagues time to finish the surgery.
Daniel: “I still think about it on a monthly basis. It’s one of those moments you remember, mostly because you realize how close it was.”
